Well there's a few criteria I apply when deciding if I like a rapper,
1 quality voice
2 lyrical content
3 you need a cool name or other distinguishing trait like having too many fingers or failing that, being especially controversial.
So firstly, I like this guy's raspy vocal squeek. Secondly, content? Um... Ok let's see how it develops and finally, and this is where it all comes together for me; Charles Hamilton. He has a name like a British MP and in certain corners of the US rap fraternity he's about as popular as a politician with large moat cleaning bill.
He's spent so much time with his foot in his mouth recently that New York rap do gooder Jay Smooth has taken it upon himself to ask people to ignore him when he speaks. Over in Detroit, Dj Houseshoes has provided a somewhat less diplomatic response to Hamilton crediting the late JDilla as executive producer on his new album, stating (in his own way) that it's a bit off to use a dead artist's name to boost your own career when you never actually knew him.. Fair point. Plus the aforementioned legend's name is already quite busy being used by Houseshoes himself, but then they did actually work together so let's not get into that..
Charles certainly seems to have good heritage with wikipedia stating his father is old school überlegend KRS ONE plus his girlfriend Briana, who incidentally doesn't seem to like him and subjects him to public displays of domestic violence, is the step daughter of Mary J Blige. Hopefully the whole of Detriot will be invited to the wedding and we can put all this behind us.
The track of note so far has been Brooklyn Girls and it's alright with me.
